Rejoice in the Lord alway

Andrew Carter’s Rejoice in the Lord alway for SATB choir (with divisions and solos) and organ takes inspiration from the dance rhythms that Henry Purcell employed in his setting of the same text, but the piece is no mere pastiche. A heavily syncopated ritornello is contrasted with moments of extremely lyrical vocal writing. Suitable for numerous concert and liturgical occasions, including The Fourth Sunday in Advent when Anglicans traditionally use the text for their Epistle reading. Published: 2001. Duration: 6′ 10″.
