O praise God in his holiness is a setting of psalm 150 for unaccompanied double SATB choir (with some divisions). Commissioned for Norman Morris and the Reading Phoenix Choir, this piece comes from a suite entitled Three Psalms of Praise, where it features alongside Praise the Lord, O my soul (Psalm 103) and an unpublished O clap your hands (Psalm 47). Andrew Carter generates excitement in O praise God in his holiness through his exploration of numerous textures and keys, including a tonally ambiguous central section to be sung “with quiet ecstasy” and an exhilarating final section that resolves onto a stunning G major chord.
