Andrew Carter Carols

The Andrew Carter Carols collection comprises a dozen of Carter’s most celebrated Christmas carols, including his arrangement of Angelus ad virginem and original carol Mary’s Magnificat (as performed during the famous Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at King’s College, Cambridge). All of the carols in this collection are scored for SATB choir (some with divisions) and nine of them have organ accompaniment. The three unaccompanied settings are Carter’s original Chanticleer Carol and his arrangements of Personent Hodie (published here for the first time in its original version) and Stille Nacht. There is much variety of mood here, including carols marked to be performed ‘With a good deal of go’, ‘Joyfully’, ‘Lovingly’, ‘Peacefully’ and ‘Like the ebb and flow of the sea’. Eight of the twelve carols in this collection are included on the award-winning Andrew Carter’s Christmas Carols CD (recorded in 2002 by the Quire of London conducted by the composer with John Scott, organ).
